Tommy finally confessed that he had put toothpaste on Grandpa’s dentures while Grandpa was sleeping.
This time, the priest could barely keep a straight face.
After hearing everything, the priest gave Tommy three Hail Marys and gently encouraged him to try to be a better boy. Tommy happily agreed and left the confessional feeling much more relaxed.
His grandmother was waiting outside with a warm smile.
“Well, Tommy, how did it go?” she asked.
Tommy proudly replied, “It was a piece of cake!”
His grandmother smiled, relieved that his first confession had gone well.
But then Tommy leaned closer and lowered his voice.
“Grandma,” he whispered, “I don’t think that man behind the screen knows even half of the things I’ve done!”
His grandmother immediately struggled to hold back her laughter as they walked out of the church.
Tommy had entered the confessional nervous and worried, but he left feeling relieved, proud, and completely convinced that he had handled everything perfectly.
And judging by his long list of adventures, his grandmother probably knew one thing for certain:
That definitely wasn’t going to be Tommy’s last memorable confession.
