The Final Note: The Ronettes Legend Who Walked Away From Fame

For millions of music fans, The Ronettes represented an unforgettable era of 1960s pop.

Their powerful sound, distinctive style, and unforgettable recordings helped define a generation. At the center of that story was Nedra Talley Ross, who performed alongside her cousins Ronnie Spector and Estelle Bennett during the group’s remarkable rise to fame.

Together, The Ronettes created songs that would become permanent pieces of music history, including “Be My Baby,” “Baby, I Love You,” and “Walking in the Rain.”

But now, an important chapter of that story has come to an end.

Nedra Talley Ross, the last surviving member of the legendary group, has died at the age of 80. Her death was announced by her daughter and through the group’s official social media accounts.

The Ronettes became closely associated with producer Phil Spector and his famous “Wall of Sound,” a production style that helped give their recordings an enormous, unmistakable sound.

Although their time at the center of the music industry was relatively short, their influence proved to be anything but temporary.

The group toured internationally, inspired generations of musicians, and eventually received one of the highest honors in music.
