The power went out just after sunset, turning our familiar house into a world of shadows and silence. Phone flashlight in hand, I stepped into my son’s room looking for candles. He was already asleep, completely unaware that anything had changed. Reaching under the bed, I expected the usual jumble of forgotten toys and clutter. Instead, my fingers closed around something hard and strangely shaped. When I pulled it into the beam of light, I froze.
The object was covered in sharp angles and spikes, almost mechanical in design. In the darkness of a child’s bedroom it looked completely out of place. My mind immediately began filling in the blanks—was it part of a project? Something broken? Something I should have known about? The lack of light only made it more unsettling. I sat on the edge of the bed, holding the mysterious object while my son slept peacefully beside me.
